The great globe research part 1

here are some pictures i have found of the great globe, bothe of these give me a good understanding of its structure.

Spiderman and pigeon

The spiderman model has been refined and kept and I have modeled a pigeon which is a part of one of the gags.

project 3: transcription

for this project i have had an idea to model a piece of architechture as my aim it to be modeling more than anything else.

this piece of architechture i was thinking of to make into 3d is one that no longer exists due to it being destroyed due to the permit running out on the land hence why it needs to me recreated in a new format.

it is called the The Great Globe formerly built in Leicester (inspired during watching an episode of Q.I.). Its got enough detail to keep me busy and to agree with my lust for high detail modeling.

Research to follow soon.

Spiderman modeled

Its taken a while to get a decent model done for the main character of our project but I think its turned out pretty well, 3 versions were created according to certain stages of the project.

the first: this was done without any decent orthographs while we were still working of the plot.

the second: this one was done with orthographs but stopped when a new style for spiderman came into play.

the third and most likely final: this is the unsmoothed version of it to see if it works.

ACTION!

I thought that to check whether the characters match up right to put them in the same picture so here its is.

Stage 1: Line Art (Done before scanning)

Stage 2: Base Colour

Stage 3: Light

Stage 4: Shadow

Stage 5: Adding Hero's New Acessories

Stage 6: The background

I realised that the hero needed a bit more detail to compete with hydran so i decided to give him 2 accessories a bracelet for his right arm an a small buckler shield for his left arm, i personally think these add to the character.

some gestures and emotes

the golden fleece was easier to emote with cos its a free form character, the hero is meant to be strong and the villain was designed with angry look to begin with to it was quite hard to make them have different emotions. the golden fleece and the hero share the same facial expressions due to the hero wearing the golden fleece like a mask.

Hero minotaur form Refined and Coloured

I lessened the sharpness of the character as per Justin's suggestion and intentionally left this character until i had come to a refined version of the fleece so that i can keep the same colours and style throughout .

Stage 1: Sketch
Stage 2: Line Art
Stage 3: Colour
Stage 4: highlights and shadows
Stage 5: Saturation
Stage 6: Stylize

Golden Fleece Refined and Coloured

here is the golden fleece in its more realised form, as justin said the original idea for the fleece to be skeleton-like made it a bit too evil and i agree so i cut back on some of the skeleton and made the head more like a simple mask, the legs i replaced with fur that have shaped themselves into legs.

stage 1: sketch

Stage 2: Line Art
Stage 3: Colour
Stage 4: Highlights and Shadows
Stage 5: Saturation change
Stage 6: Stylize

Pre-Viz

here are some pre-viz i was asked to put together for our project they're a little jumpy due to just wanting the timings and "key" poses.

pre-viz 1:

Spider-man is stood in front of the camera and is asked to portray a range of with his mask on they start off with happy and there is no real movement the director then asks for sad again there is only little movement. The more emotions that pass the angrier spider-man becomes this is visible by him "shaking" Finally the emotion anger comes up and he starts jumping around and waving his fists in the air appearing to go on a rampage and storms off stage.
Director applauds his performance for nailing the final emotion.
Director yells "CUT!", end of scene and fade to black.

FOR FULLSCREEN CLICK HERE

Pre-viz 2:

Spiderman is swinging round and something goes wrong with the green screen, you start seeing some holiday snaps instead of a big city image. The camera starts to pan out to reveal spider-man tied up by his hands to the ceiling and his feet to the floor "for the swing effect"
Director yells "CUT!", end of scene and fade to black.

Hydran Refined and Coloured

Hydran as justin said was a bit too human-like so i thought hey why not cut back the cloak a bit so that you can see more of the modified body with an addition of a tail. i also thought of cutting back on some detail to make it more cartoon-like plus i gave him a staff as sorcerers typically have some tool for their power to flow.

i redrew him in photoshop and coloured him in to get the right feel for him.

stage 1: the original sketchStage 2: The Line ArtStage 3: colour with highlightsStage 4: ShadowsStage 5: Saturation change (suggested by Tom Beg)Stage 6: Stylizing

Narrative work

we have decided to go with spiderman as a pastiché target. part of the idea is to have a film studio all set up to take green screen footage for the latest film.

The original idea that uses the studio was to have screen tests for the role of spiderman, and of course mishaps ensue.

I have been given the task to model a lot of the objects, here are the models i have done so far. (please click for larger images)

Spiderman (WIP)

Mic-stand

Green-screen

Box-light

Most of these models with exception of the green screen were box-modeled from either cubes or cylinders.

I'll post the older ideas after this.

Found the images and made a few more

I managed to locate all the images i had done in the character design lessons and scanned them in, except for the ones drawn in blue i had to take photos of them. (i forgot scanners find blue hard to read)

I also drew up some more and thought a bit more on the story.

first are some of the drawings unrelated to the main project.

The last two on the scientist images are redraws of my original design done by Zack Moat (http://wakkamole.blogspot.com/).

Next are the ones from the main project.

The Villain: Hydran

I designed the hands and feet then i decided to redesign the cloak to be a bit more sharper and torn, i do admit though that i believe the proportions are a bit off.

The villain's sidekick: ??? (name still unknown)

The snake i'm having second thoughts about for a decent character that will fit in with the whole aesthetic of the idea now.

The hero: ??? (name still unknown)

My drawing ability and design of the hero has improved with each step the last of the images i shall explain after the next image.

The hero's sidekick: The Golden Fleece

I was thinking more along the lines with this sidekick, the golden fleece is an important plot device and is an alternative to the hero having a generic curse. After obtaining the fleece from the forest without alerting the dragon, the fleece reveals its personality, a talkative slightly cowardly being that is able if worn as a mask to tranform the wearer into a minotaur of tremendous strength, hence the new drawing of the hero.

Lack of posting

Sorry for the lack of posting and it is totally inexcusable.

i was intending to scan and upload all the drawings i did over the character design lessons but they have been misplaced due to parental unit re-organizing the living room.

When i find them i will post them post-haste!

During the character lessons i came up with an idea for the hero, i couldn't quite fully fill the idea of the hero when i realized the whole setup of my idea seemed very familiar.

Before stating the familiarity i shall start will what i managed to come up with for the hero its not much but it IS an idea.

The hero is a regular village worker helping out in the fields when Hydran/Hydrax decides to destroy the town after failing to persuade them to serve under his rule. The spell he used to destroy the village had failed to wipe out everyone. The hero of course is the only one to survive, as he awoke from being knocked unconscious he found that he had been cursed to change to the form of a minotaur only to realize that his village had been destroyed and he set out for revenge.

When you put hero and the villain together in the most typical way it seems so much like an old game called 'altered beast':

altered beast is a game about a hero being resurected to fight of a villain during his quest he is able to change forms into legendary beasts. here is a video:

Attempt at drawing Villain

sorry for the photo but i don't have a scanner big enough, still a draft design, may change.

edit: oops forgot to mention that there are no hands in the picture because i was concentrating on the head.

YES! brainwave! First character idea!

It came to me while I was in between states of awake and asleep, you know when you are awake but your mind is floating between the dream world and conciousness.

I have the ideas for the villain and the villain's side-kick (henchman) already, I even have an image in my head of how they will look like hopefully my drawing skills will be able to portray them how i would like.

just to remind you the context is mythic.

the Era i have decided is that of Greek.

THE VILLAIN:

Name: Hydran/Hydrax
Occupation: Evil sorcerer
Age: About 41
Place of Birth: Macedonia
Bio: He grew up in Macedonia a city steeped in the belief that sorcery was the way of demons, even so he studied sorcery in order to help people. At the age of 27 he was caught praticing it by the city guard, he was henceforth charged with conspiring with demons and hastily exiled. After 14 long years of exile he has come back for revenge and to take over all of greece, during those years he managed to fuse his weak human body with that of a hydra giving him the agility to evade capture.

THE SIDE-KICK:

Name: (undecided)
Occupation: Minion/Punching Bag/Stress Relief
Creature: King Cobra
Age: unknown
Place of Birth: India
Bio: Born in India and stowed away on a ship to greece, being alone and seeking shelter slithered into a cave and happened accross the recently exiled Hydran/Hydrax. Hydran/Hydrax was also seeking company so he gave (undecided) the power of speech. (undecided) has stayed with Hydran/Hydrax for the countless years watching Hydran/Hydrax go slowly insane.

Character design: part 1 getting the task

we received the brief for the character design project today.

the task is to create 3 characters based around a specific context, mine is to based around a mythic context. The 3 characters are a hero, a villain and a side-kick. These are to be supported with turn-arounds, synopsis, colour reference, facial expressions, backgrounds, prop handling.

Year 2 start! 2 new projects are go!

Well what a great start to a new year!

2 new projects to have fun with (good) and getting stuck in the elevator for 45mins (bad).

I like these new projects as the character design one (which we should be getting the brief to tomorrow) should help me be more creative. The narrative one I like because we get to create a spoof of a genre and also change the genre of some trailers and the posters, i like to manipulate pictures ^_^.

The animation for your viewing pleasure

here it is a fairly annoying yet fun animation to make for your viewing pleasure:

Logo designed

i created a logo to place onto the production book and even carved into the front of it, and maybe the disc aswell seeing that i just bought some lightscribe discs to burn labels onto. here is the logo:
